Bruce County OPP officer charged after collision in Brant Township

Post by Michael Jack »

An OPP constable is facing charges following a crash in Brant Township involving a motorcycle that resulted in injuries.

On June 9, 2018, members of South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Bruce County Paramedic Services responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Bruce County Road 3 and Bruce County Road 2.

A marked OPP police vehicle and a motorcycle were involved in the collision.

The motorcycle operator and Bruce County OPP officer were taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was notified and invoked its mandate.

Following the completion of the SIU investigation, South Bruce OPP concluded their parallel investigation.

As a result, Provincial Constable Kenneth Roppel was charged on November 13, 2018 with failing to afford reasonable opportunity to avoid a collision while making a left turn.

A court appearance has been scheduled for December 18, 2018.

The director of the Special Investigations Unit, Tony Loparco, has determined there are no reasonable grounds to lay criminal charges against an Ontario Provincial Police officer in relation to the serious injury sustained by a 34-year-old man when the man’s motorcycle with the police cruiser.
