Wellington County OPP officer charged with obstruction of justice and breach of trust

The Ontario Provincial Police say one of their officers has been charged with two offences under the Criminal Code.

The Ontario Provincial Police Professional Standards Bureau, with the assistance of the West region OPP Crime Unit, began an investigation on June 5 following allegations of wrongdoing by one of its members.

They say Sergeant Shawn Jones with the Wellington County Detachment has been charged with Obstruct of Justice and Breach of Trust.

Jones has been working with the OPP for 29 years.

He has been suspended with pay and is scheduled to appear in Guelph court August 28, 2018.

GUELPH, Ont. — Provincial police say an officer who has been with the force for 29 years is facing charges.

OPP says an investigation into alleged wrongdoing by an officer began on June 5.

They say Sgt. Shawn Jones, currently serving at the Wellington County detachment, is charged with obstruction of justice and breach of trust.

Details of the accusations were not released.

Jones has been suspended with pay and is to appear in court in Guelph, Ont., on Aug. 28.

Charges laid against Wellington County OPP officer

Ontario Provincial Police say charges have been laid against a 29-year member of the force following a lengthy internal investigation.

Police said an investigation by their Professional Standards Bureau and West Region Crime Unit began on June 5 following allegations of “wrongdoing” by one of their officers.

Sgt. Shawn Jones, currently serving at the Wellington County detachment in Fergus Ont., was charged on Wednesday with obstructing justice and breach of trust.

An OPP spokesperson would not elaborate on what the charges stem from because she said the matter is now before the courts.

Jones has been suspended with pay and will make a court appearance on Aug. 28.
