The Special Investigations Unit is investigating after the death of a 59-year-old man near Peterborough.

Officers with the Ontario Provincial Police reportedly responded to a call for a “man in distress” at around 3:15 p.m. Monday.

OPP officers located the man at a home in Douro Township, near Peterborough. He “was pronounced dead at the scene,” SIU officials said in a news release.

The SIU has assigned two investigators and two forensic investigators to the incident.

Officials are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact investigators at 1-800-787-8529.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency, which probes cases of police-involved death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.

SIU probing man's death in Douro-Dummer, Peterborough County

The province's Special Investigations Unit has been called in after a man died in Douro-Dummer Township on New Year's Day.

The SIU reports that Peterborough County OPP officers were called to a home in the community at about 3:15 p.m. A man was in distress, police were told.
Officers entered the home. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The SIU is called in to investigate whenever an interaction with police results in death, injury or sexual assault.

Two investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case, and are asking anyone with information to call the investigators at 1-800-787-8529. Video can be uploaded to the SIU via its website.
