PARRY SOUND - An on-duty West Parry Sound (OPP) officer was charged after a collision on Highway 69 in Archipelago Township at 11:33 a.m. on Sunday Aug. 19.

The officer had stopped on the shoulder of the northbound lane of the highway and while attempting a u-turn entered the path of a southbound 2011 Ford Mustang.

The vehicles collided in the southbound lane. The OPP vehicle, a fully marked black Ford Crown Victoria, did not have the emergency lights activated at the time of the collision.

The officer was not injured as a result of the collision.

The 36-year-old male driver of the Mustang was transported to the West Parry Sound Health Centre with non-life threatening injuries.

Passengers in the Mustang were not injured.

Britt and Area Fire members and Parry Sound Ambulance both responded to the collision.

Const. Lorie Lalonde, 34, of Parry Sound, has been charged with unsafely starting from a stopped position under the Highway Traffic Act. The charge has a fine of $110 and two demerit points.

Lalonde has been a member of the OPP for two years.
