Constable charged with failing to yield after collision in Peterborough on Thursday night (Jan. 21).

PETERBOROUGH — An OPP constable has been charged with failing to yield following a two-vehicle crash in Peterborough last night (Jan. 21).

Peterborough Police were called to Hospital Drive and Charlotte Street around 11:50 p.m. Thursday.

Both drivers involved were treated for minor injuries.

One of the vehicles involved was an OPP cruiser. Total damage is estimated at $7,000.

Lauren Gilchrist, Communications Coordinator for the Peterborough Police, says It is their practice not to release names of those charged only under the Highway Traffic Act.

OPP officer charged after collision near hospital

City police have charged an OPP officer under the Highway Traffic Act after a collision Thursday morning.

The incident occurred at Hospital Dr. and Charlotte St., police say.

One of the two vehicles involved was an OPP cruiser.

Both drivers received medical attention for minor injuries, while there was $7,000 in damages.

The OPP officer, 40, was charged with failing to yield. His name was not released.

Peterborough OPP officer charged following collision

A member of the Peterborough County OPP has been issued a Provincial Offence notice following a two vehicle collision which occurred on Thursday, January 21 just before midnight.

The collision occurred at Hospital Drive and Charlotte Street in the City of Peterborough and was investigated by the Peterborough Police Service.

Provincial Constable John Witzing, a four year member of the OPP has been charged with Fail to Yield to Traffic, contrary to Section 144(8) of the Highway Traffic Act.

Name released of Peterborough County OPP officer charged after collision near hospital

Peterborough County OPP have now released the name of a Peterborough County OPP officer charged the Peterborough city police with a provincial offence ticket under the Highway Traffic Act after a collision late Thursday night.

Acting Sgt. Lynda Cranney stated Friday afternoon that Const. John Witzing, 40, a four-year member of the OPP, was charged with failing to yield.

Earlier Friday Peterborough city police would not release his name, citing city police policy for Highway Traffic Act charges.

The collision occurred at 11:48 p.m. at Hospital Dr. and Charlotte St., Cranney stated.

One of the two vehicles involved was an OPP cruiser.

Both drivers received medical attention for minor injuries, while there was $7,000 in damage, city police said.
