Six-figure earners

Viewed by many Ontario communities as an untenable financial burden, OPP costs continue to rise. Though often justified in the name of “public safety,” these escalating expenses raise a critical question: Who will rein in these costs, and at what price?

Six-figure earners

Post by Michael Jack »

There’s a lot of green in the thin blue line.

Some 4,131 officers with the Toronto Police Service earned more than $100,000. That’s 75 per cent of the department’s 5,457 officers.

Leading the pack was Chief Bill Blair at $349,259.

The Ontario Provincial Police saw a whopping increase with 5,171 officers making $100,000 or more — up dramatically from the 2,178 in 2013, due in part to an 8.55 per cent pay increase for the rank and file.

There are 6,127 OPP officers, meaning 84 per cent earn six figures.

Topping the list was Commissioner Vince Hawkes at $256,107.

From police on the beat and teachers in the classroom to real doctors and spin doctors, there are 111,440 six-figure earners on the provincial payroll in Ontario.
