They’ll fight OPP costing hike

Viewed by many Ontario communities as an untenable financial burden, OPP costs continue to rise. Though often justified in the name of “public safety,” these escalating expenses raise a critical question: Who will rein in these costs, and at what price?

They’ll fight OPP costing hike

Post by Michael Jack »

Hastings County municipalities are fighting a proposed funding formula for the Ontario Provincial Police which they say will increase the cost of policing.

They are worried that the new formula will lead to huge increases in the cost of OPP policing in many, but not all, communities.

Tweed Mayor Joanne Albert says the money will have to be taken from the millions of dollars worth of roads and bridges work that has to be done.

Local officials and many across Ontario intend to raise the issue with cabinet ministers at the Good Roads conference in February.
