The next time you speak with an Ontario Provincial Police officer in Brant County, you could be recorded on camera.
Brant County OPP officers are now wearing body-worn cameras. Police said the change is being made to enhance the safety of both the public and their officers.
“This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in our community,” police said in a social media post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
In May, the neighbouring police service in the city of Brantford announced their officers would also be outfitted with cameras by the end of the year.
Recently, footage from the body-worn camera of OPP Const. Greg Pierzchala was used in the high-profile murder trial surrounding his death. The jury was asked to consider images taken from Pierzchala’s camera as part of their deliberations.
