The province’s Special Investigations Unit has taken over an investigation in Kingsville.

On Monday, May 25, at approximately 8:25 a.m., members of the Essex County Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Grandview Avenue.

Following the initial investigation, officers arrested one person.

During the arrest, police deployed a conducted energy weapon - also known as a taser.

While in custody, the individual required medical attention and was transported to hospital by ambulance.

The SIU has taken over the investigation from the OPP.

SIU Invokes Mandate Following Arrest In Kingsville

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate following an arrest in the Town of Kingsville.

On Monday, May 25, 2026, at approximately 8:25 a.m., members of the Essex County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Grandview Avenue.

Following the initial investigation, officers arrested one person.

During the arrest, police deployed a conducted energy weapon. While in custody, the individual required medical attention and was transported to hospital by ambulance.

As the SIU has invoked its mandate, the OPP will not be able to provide further information.

The provinces police watchdog was called into investigate an incident with the Ontario Provincial Police in Kingsville this week.

Officers responded to a suspicious vehicle on Grandview Avenue on Monday morning. After a brief investigation, one person was arrested.

A conducted energy weapon was used during the arrest.

The suspect required medical attention while in custody and was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

The Special Investigations Unit invoked its mandate and is investigating the interaction.
