SIU invoked after Orangeville arrest sends person to hospital

Investigations conducted by Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit into serious incidents involving OPP officers, from injuries and deaths to allegations of sexual assault. Many argue that the SIU’s findings often serve to obscure, rather than reveal, police misconduct.

SIU invoked after Orangeville arrest sends person to hospital

Post by Michael Jack »

Ontario’s police watchdog has stepped in after a person in Orangeville was taken to the hospital following an arrest.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) invoked its mandate after police responded to a disturbance at a home on Thursday, shortly after 4 p.m.

According to investigators, officers from the Dufferin OPP detachment attended the home, where one person was arrested and taken into custody.

The person was then brought to the Dufferin detachment. While in custody, they required medical attention and were taken to the local hospital.

The extent of their condition has not been released.

Ontario Provincial Police says it will not be providing any additional details about the incident as it is in the hands of the SIU.
