Man found dead following standoff with OPP: SIU investigating

The Special Investigations Unit is investigating after a man in a standoff with police was found dead inside a home.

Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police officers were called to assist “court officials” at a home on Devista Boulevard in Alfred and Plantagenet Township just before 11 a.m. on Tuesday, OPP said.

A man at the home refused to come outside. Police on scene then saw a fire inside the home. Once that fire was put out, police found the man dead.

Police notified the province’s civilian police watchdog. The SIU investigates any incidents of death, serious injury and sexual assault involving police officers in Ontario and invoked that mandate on Tuesday.
