A veteran police officer has been charged in connection to a child sexual exploitation investigation in Alliston.

The Ontario Provincial Police child sexual exploitation unit, with help from Nottawasaga OPP and members of the OPP's digital forensics unit, conducted the investigation.

On Tuesday, June 16, police say officers executed a search warrant at a residence in Alliston and seized a number of electronic devices.

As a result of the investigation, on Tuesday, Sept. 8, Chris Weise, 54, of Alliston, was arrested and charged with accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material, and possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

Police say the investigation revealed the accused is an OPP sergeant with 28 years of service and who is currently on an unrelated leave of absence.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on Thursday, Oct. 8.

A veteran Ontario Provincial Police officer is facing serious allegations related to a child exploitation investigation.

Provincial police say a months-long investigation led to the execution of a search warrant at the accused’s home in June.

During that search, police seized a number of electronic devices from the suspect’s Alliston, Ont., home.

As a result of the investigation, police charged 54-year-old OPP Sgt. Chris Weise with one count of accessing and one count of possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

Police say Weise is a 28-year OPP veteran and is currently on an unrelated leave of absence.

He is scheduled for a court date in early October.

Ontario Provincial Police say a veteran officer is facing criminal charges in a child exploitation investigation in Alliston, Ont..

Police say they carried out a search at a home in the community about 100 kilometres northwest of Toronto in June and seized several electronic devices.

They say that led to the arrest of a 54-year-old man earlier this month.

Investigators say the man has been charged with accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material and possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

Police say the investigation revealed that the accused is an OPP sergeant with 28 years of service who is currently on an unrelated leave of absence.

They say he's expected to appear in court in Bradford, Ont., on Oct. 8.
