Veteran OPP officer charged with impaired in Oro-Medonte

Police say accused is a detective constable assigned to OPP General Headquarters in Orillia, has 18 years of service and was off-duty at the time of the arrest

An Ontario Provincial Police officer has been charged with impaired driving after a vehicle was stopped recently in Oro-Medonte Township, north of Barrie.

At around 1 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, Orillia OPP says officers stopped a vehicle on Line 5 North, between 15-16 Sideroad West and Old Barrie Road West.

William Lucia, 43, whose hometown was provided as Simcoe County, has been charged with operation while impaired (blood-alcohol concentration 80-plus).

Police say the accused is an OPP detective constable assigned to General Headquarters in Orillia, has 18 years of service and was off-duty at the time of the arrest.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on Oct. 13, 2026.

OPP officer busted on impaired driving charges in Oro-Medonte Twp., Ont.

An Orillia Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer with 18 years of service has been arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.

Provincial police stopped a vehicle on Line 5 North, between 15-16 Sideroad West and Old Barrie Road West, in Oro-Medonte on August 28 at around 1 a.m.

As a result of the OPP’s investigation, William Lucia, 43, of Simcoe County, was charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The investigation revealed that the OPP Detective Constable with 18 years of service assigned to General Headquarters in Orillia, was off duty at the time of the incident.

He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
