An Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was charged with assault after tasering a driver last winter.

The OPP’s Professional Standards Unit has charged Const. Kevin Noh, 35, of Richmond Hill with assault and assault with a weapon.

Police say an officer in an unmarked cruiser pulled over a car on Yonge Street in North York on January 2.

In a press release, police say “During the traffic stop, the officer discharged a conducted energy weapon at the driver of the vehicle.”

The assaulted driver was arrested and charged under the Highway Traffic Act and was later taken to a hospital for an assessment.

On Friday, Noh, a nine-year veteran and a member of the OPP Highway Safety division, was formally charged.

He has been assigned to administrative duties and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Toronto on Friday, October 2.

On Jan. 2, 2026, an OPP officer in an unmarked cruiser initiated a traffic stop on Yonge Street in North York.

During the traffic stop, the officer discharged a conducted energy weapon (CEW). The driver of the vehicle was arrested and charged under the Highway Traffic Act. The driver was later transported to a hospital for assessment.

The OPP PSU launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the arrest, notes a media release from the OPP.

On July 24, 2026, Kevin Noh, 35, of Richmond Hill, who is a provincial constable with nine years of service, was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

- Assault, section 266
- Assault with a weapon, section 267(a)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Toronto on Oct. 2, 2026.

Const. Noh is a member of the OPP Highway Safety Division currently assigned to administrative duties.

OPP say an officer in an unmarked cruiser carried out a traffic stop on Yonge Street on Jan. 2 and discharged a stun gun.

They say the driver of the vehicle was arrested and charged under the Highway Traffic Act, and later taken to hospital for an assessment.

Police say their professional standards unit launched an investigation into the circumstances of the arrest and charged the officer last Friday.

OPP say the constable has been charged with assault and assault with a weapon, and is due in court on Oct. 2.

They say the 35-year-old has served with the force for nine years and is part of the Highway Safety Division, though he is currently assigned to administrative duties.

The OPP officer was in an unmarked cruiser when he initiated a traffic stop on Jan. 2 on Yonge Street in North York, according to police.

During the stop, “the officer discharged a conducted energy weapon.” The driver of the vehicle was arrested and charged under the Highway Traffic Act, before being brought to the hospital for an assessment.

The provincial police force’s Professional Standards Unit (PSU) then launched an investigation into the circumstances of the arrest.

On July 24, 35-year old Kevin Noh, an officer from Richmond Hill, was charged by the unit with assault and assault with a weapon. He is a provincial constable with nine years of service.

Noh is scheduled to appear in court in Toronto on October 2. He is a member of the OPP’s Highway Safety Division and is currently assigned to administrative duties.

The OPP reported the incident to Ontario’s police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), on Jan. 30.

The unit did not investigate because “based on the information received there was no serious injury suffered by the complainant,” SIU spokesperson Kristy Denette said in an email.

It typically investigates police conduct that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the firing of a firearm at someone.

An Ontario Provincial Police constable from Richmond Hill is charged with assault with a weapon after a driver was struck by non-lethal energy during a traffic stop in North York, the OPP’s Professional Standards Unit announced July 31.

The driver, who had been arrested in the Jan. 2 incident and charged under the Highway Traffic Act, was taken to hospital for assessment after the officer fired a conducted energy weapon, the PSU said in a release.

The officer involved, a member of the Highway Safety Division with nine years of service, was driving an unmarked cruiser when he stopped a vehicle on Yonge Street.

The PSU later started an investigation into the constable’s conduct.

The release said the officer is “currently assigned to administrative duties” and will appear in court in Toronto on Oct. 2, charged with assault and assault with a weapon.
