SIU said there is “no evidence to move forward with criminal charges” against an OPP officer after investigating an incident in a Parry Sound provincial park.

Timeline of events
In the early morning of Oct. 5, 2025, officers from the West Parry Sound OPP detachment, including the officer involved in the SIU investigation, responded to an incident between two campers at Oastler Lake Provincial Park.
According to the SIU, a witness said a woman had slapped another camper in the face following noise complaints.
Upon arrival, officers arrested and searched the 34-year-old woman and then placed her in a cruiser to take her to the Parry Sound detachment.
The SIU noted the OPP in-car camera showed the woman was “emotional and crying.” She “apologized multiple times and appeared confused and emotionally distressed throughout the interaction.”
Once at the detachment, the woman was put in a cell before being released later that day at around 8:50 a.m.
After being released, the SIU indicated the woman returned to the park to meet with the person she had slapped — in violation of a no-contact condition of her release from custody.
That same day, she attended the hospital, where she was diagnosed with two broken right-sided ribs.
