Carleton Place tax hike alert: how inflation and policing costs are impacting your wallet in 2025

Carleton Place tax hike alert: how inflation and policing costs are impacting your wallet in 2025

Post by Michael Jack »

The finalized 2025 budget for Carleton Place includes notable increases driven by inflation and rising policing costs. Here’s a summary of the financial impact:

Overall Tax Increase:

A 3.9% general tax increase has been recommended, attributed largely to inflation in construction costs.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) contract has risen by 26% (an additional $622,270), requiring an additional 4.1% tax levy increase to cover it.

Combined Tax Impact:

For a home provincially assessed at the Town’s median value of $293,000, these combined increases will result in an annual property tax increase of $176.09, or $14.67 per month.

These measures reflect the growing financial pressures faced by municipalities, including Carleton Place, as they balance essential services with rising costs. Public comments are being accepted until December 5th and a final council vote is slated for December 10th.
