Second Southern Georgian Bay OPP officer faces with sexual assault charges

Another Southern Georgian Bay officer has been arrested on charges of sexual assault.

A Special Investigations Unit (SIU) investigation into the conduct of Sgt. Blake Hamilton with the Southern Georgian Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment led SIU director Joseph Martino to approve the charges.

Martino found he had reasonable grounds to believe that Hamilton committed criminal offences in December 2025 against a woman in Tay Township. The SIU was made aware of the allegations by the OPP on February 24.

As a result of the SIU investigation, Hamilton is facing the following charges under the Criminal Code:

- Two counts of sexual assault
- Two counts of breach of trust.

These charges come on the heels of the arrest of another OPP officer from the Southern Georgian Bay detachment who was charged with sexual assault and breach of trust following an investigation by the province’s police watchdog.

The SIU said Monday that OPP Const. Zahid Javed is facing three counts of sexual assault and three counts of breach of trust.

The charges stem from allegations involving three women and incidents the SIU says took place between August 2024 and October 2025.

Javed is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on Sept. 10.

Another officer with Southern Georgian Bay OPP detachment has been charged with sexual assault this week.

The province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says Sgt. Blake Hamilton has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of breach of trust.

According to the SIU, the alleged offences occurred in December 2025 against a woman in Tay Township, and that it was made aware of the allegations by the OPP on Feb. 24, 2026.

Hamilton was arrested at SIU headquarters on Tuesday and released on several conditions, including an order not to communicate directly or indirectly with the alleged victim.

The charges come one day after another Southern Georgian Bay OPP officer, Const. Zahid Javid, was charged with three counts of sexual assault and three counts of breach of trust.

The SIU said those allegations involve three women and date back between August 2024 and October 2025.

It said the investigation began after the OPP notified the SIU in February of this year about an allegation involving sexual assault by an officer against a woman. During the investigation, the SIU said it uncovered separate allegations involving two additional women.

Both accused are to appear in court in Midland on Sept. 10, 2026.

None of the allegations against either officer have been proven in court.

Const. Zahid Javed was arrested on Monday morning and charged with three counts each of sexual assault and breach of trust. He was also released on several conditions.

For the second time in two days, officer from Southern Georgian Bay detachment has been charged; sergeant also facing two counts of breach of trust

For the second time in two days, a local OPP officer has been charged with sexual assault offences.

Joseph Martino, the director of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), announced today that there are "reasonable grounds" to believe a Southern Georgian Bay OPP officer "committed criminal offences" against a woman.

Sgt. Blake Hamilton has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of breach of trust in relation to the offences in December of 2025 against a Tay Township woman.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.

The SIU says it was made aware of the allegations by the OPP on Feb. 24, 2026.

Sgt. Hamilton was arrested at SIU headquarters Tuesday morning and later released on several conditions, including that he refrain from communicating directly or indirectly with the affected person.

Sgt. Hamilton is required to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at 605 Yonge St., in Midland, at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 10, 2026.

"As the matter is before the courts, and in consideration of the fair trial interests of the accused, the SIU will not provide further comment on the investigation," says a media release from the SIU.

On Monday, Southern Georgian Bay OPP Const. Zahid Javed was charged with three counts each of sexual assault and breach of trust.

The SIU says the alleged incidents took place between August 2024 and October of last year.
