Ontario's police watchdog says a provincial police officer has been charged with sexual assault in separate incidents involving a total of three women.
The Special Investigations Unit says Ontario Provincial Police reported an allegation involving the officer and a woman in February, and the other allegations emerged during its investigation.
The SIU says the alleged incidents took place between August 2024 and October of last year.
It says Const. Zahid Javed of the OPP's Southern Georgian Bay detachment was arrested this morning and faces three counts each of sexual assault and breach of trust.
The watchdog says Javed has since been released on several conditions, including that he not communicate with the complainants.
He is due back in court in Midland, Ont., next month.

Southern Georgian Bay OPP officer charged with sexual assault, breach of trust: SIU
An Ontario Provincial Police officer from the Southern Georgian Bay detachment has been charged with sexual assault and breach of trust following an investigation by the province’s police watchdog.
The Special Investigations Unit said Monday that OPP Const. Zahid Javed is facing three counts of sexual assault and three counts of breach of trust.
The charges stem from allegations involving three women and incidents the SIU says took place between August 2024 and October 2025.
The probe began after police contacted the SIU on Feb. 6, 2026, regarding an allegation of sexual assault involving an officer and a woman.
While investigating that allegation, the SIU said it learned of separate alleged incidents involving two additional women.
SIU Director Joseph Martino determined there were reasonable grounds to believe Javed had committed criminal offences.
Javed was arrested at SIU headquarters Monday morning and later released with several conditions. One of those conditions prohibits him from communicating directly or indirectly with the affected people.
He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on Sept. 10.
The SIU said it will not comment on the investigation while the case is before the courts. The allegations against Javed have not been proven in court.

The Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Joseph Martino, has reasonable grounds to believe an Ontario Provincial Police officer with the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment committed criminal offences between August of 2024 and October of 2025.
On February 6, 2026, the Ontario Provincial Police notified the SIU of an allegation of sexual assault involving an officer and a woman. In the course of its investigation, the SIU uncovered separate allegations involving two additional women.
As a result of the SIU investigations, Cst Zahid Javed is facing the following charges under the Criminal Code:
Three counts of sexual assault contrary to section 271; and
Three counts of breach of trust, contrary to section 122.
Cst Javed was arrested at SIU headquarters this morning and later released on several conditions, including that he refrains from communicating directly or indirectly with the affected persons.
Cst Javed is required to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at 605 Yonge Street in Midland on September 10, 2026.

The SIU, which reviews police conduct across the province, announced on Aug. 17 that an Ontario Provincial Police constable based out of the Southern Georgian Bay detachment is facing six charges following an investigation into sexual assault complaints.
The alleged crimes happened between August 2024 and October 2025, said the SIU.
