SIU investigating after 2 injured in crash involving OPP cruiser on Hwy. 400

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating following a crash involving a car and an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) cruiser on Highway 400 in North York.

Just before 8 a.m. on Friday, Ontario Province Police posted on X about a multi-vehicle crash on northbound 400 near Highway 401.

Paramedics told 680 NewsRadio they transported two people with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and a third person with minor injuries.

SIU confirmed a police officer and a driver of a civilian vehicle were transported to hospital.

Just after 8:30 a.m., OPP said the northbound 400 is now fully closed from EB and WB ramps from the 401 and Black Creek Drive. 680 NewsRadio reports the closure is between the 401 and Finch Avenue.

The closure is still in place and it’s unknown when the lanes will reopen.

The SIU is called in to investigate when police conduct may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault or the discharge of a firearm at a person.

The province’s police watchdog is investigating a collision involving an Ontario Provincial Police cruiser on Highway 400 in Toronto that resulted in a lengthy closure on Friday.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said the collision between the OPP cruiser and a civilian vehicle occurred at approximately 7 a.m. in the Highway 400 and Finch Avenue area.

As a result, all Highway 400 northbound lanes at Highway 401 were closed for several hours. They reopened shortly after 3:30 p.m.

The SIU said both the officer and the driver of the civilian vehicle were transported to the hospital. The severity of their injuries is not immediately clear.

The circumstances that led to the collision are unknown.

The SIU said that three investigators, two forensic investigators and one collision reconstructionist have been assigned to investigate the incident.

Police are investigating a two-vehicle collision that sent two people to hospital Friday night.

An SUV and pickup truck collided at the intersection of Belmont Road and Ron McNeil Line at approximately 8:30, leading to surrounding road closures for several hours.

The 39-year-old SUV driver from London and the 70-year-old pick up truck driver were both taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The roads have since reopened, and anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact OPP.
