OPP officer charged in alleged on-duty assault

A Sarnia-area OPP officer has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon.

Lambton County OPP say Carmen Bressette, an officer with 29 years of service, has been charged in connection with an incident that occurred last New Year’s Eve.

At the time, Bressette was on-duty and in the process of making an arrest.

According to OPP, Bressette has been assigned to administrative duties pending the outcome of a court appearance slated for next month.

Incident happened Dec. 31 during an arrest near Lambton OPP Detachment

A Lambton OPP constable has been charged with assault with a weapon.

Const. Carmen Bressette, a 29-year member of the OPP, has been assigned to administrative duties and is scheduled to appear June 9 in Sarnia court, the provincial police force said Thursday.

Bressette was charged by the OPP Professional Standards Bureau following an investigation of an incident that happened while the constable was on duty and making an arrest Dec. 31 in the area of the Lambton OPP Detachment.

Veteran OPP Officer Faces Assault Charge

A veteran member of the OPP currently assigned to the Lambton County detachment has been charged with assault.

The Professional Standards Bureau investigated an incident that occurred when the officer was on duty and making an arrest Dec 31, 2013 in Lambton detachment jurisdiction.

As a result of the investigation, Constable Carmen Bressette, a 29-year member of the provincial force, is charged with assault with a weapon.

Constable Bressette has been assigned to administrative duties pending a court appearance in Sarnia on June 9.

A 29-year veteran of the OPP is facing charges of assault with a weapon after an investigation by the OPP’s Professional Standards Bureau.

Few details about the incident are being released. A news release from the OPP says the charges stem from an incident on Dec. 31. Details of where the incident occurred, the circumstances around it, if the person involved was male or female or if the person was injured were not released by the OPP saying those details are part of the current investigation.

Officials did say there is “no outstanding incidents before the court related to the original incident.”

Cons. Carmen Bressette of the Lambton OPP detachment has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon and will appear in court June 9.

He’s been assigned to administrative duties until the charges are dealt with.

An Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer in Lambton County faces a criminal assault charge.

According to the OPP Professional Standards Bureau (PSB) the charge stems from an incident during an on-duty arrest within the Lambton OPP service area on New Year’s Eve 2013.

As a result of the PSB investigation, 29-year OPP veteran Const. Carmen Bressette was charged with one count of assault with a weapon.

He has been assigned to administrative duties pending his court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia on June 9.

The charge hasn’t been proven in court.
