Kingston OPP officer charged with sexual assault

An OPP officer based in the Kingston area has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman, and he will appear in court in January.

The officer works in the investigation and organized crime command in eastern Ontario.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit was called on Nov. 10 to investigate the allegations. The SIU is an arm’s-length agency that looks into reports involving police and serious injury, sexual assault or death.

Now that a charge has been laid, the SIU declines to make further comment on the investigation.

Det. Const. Phil Heymans is facing one charge of sexual assault.
