A first-year Ontario Provincial Police constable serving in Elliot Lake is accused of driving impaired while off-duty near Midland, Ont.

A possible impaired driver on Concession Road 15 in Tiny Township was reported to the OPP’s Southern Georgian Bay detachment late last Friday night, a release says.

Matthew Melchiorre, 26, of Elliot Lake, was charged with operation while impaired and having a blood/alcohol level of more than 80 milligrams.

His licence was suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for one week.

Court date for the accused is Feb. 18 in Midland.

BARRIE, ONT. -- Provincial police charged an off-duty OPP officer after receiving complaints about a suspected drunk driver in Tiny Township.

Police say the off-duty officer was driving along Concession Road 15 West on Friday night when officers pulled him over.

Following breath tests, he was arrested.

The 26-year-old provincial constable was issued a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension and had his vehicle impounded.

The accused is in his first year with the East Algoma OPP detachment.

Off-duty OPP officer accused of impaired driving in Tiny

TINY TOWNSHIP - On Friday, Jan. 29, 2021, at approximately 11:30 p.m. members from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Southern Georgian Bay Detachment responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver on Concession Road 15 West in Tiny Township.

The officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

As a result of the investigation, the driver was placed under arrest for operation of a motor vehicle while impaired and transported to an OPP Detachment where further breath tests were conducted.

As a result, Matthew Melchiorre, 26, of Elliot Lake, has been charged with:

- Operation while impaired, and
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg.

The driver was issued a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (ADLS) and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on Feb. 18, 2021 to answer to the charges.

The accused is a provincial constable with the OPP and is currently in his first year of service at East Algoma Detachment.

An off-duty provincial police officer was charged with impaired driving in Tiny Township, Ont., on Friday night.

Southern Georgian Bay OPP say they received a traffic complaint regarding a potential impaired driver on Concession Road 15 West.

Police stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver before sending him to the OPP detachment for further breath tests.

Matthew Melchiorre, 26, from Elliot Lake, Ont., was subsequently charged with two counts of impaired driving. He is currently a provincial constable and is in his first year of service at the OPP’s East Algoma detachment.

Melchiorre’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

He will appear in court in Midland, Ont., on Feb. 18.
