Caledon OPP cruiser involved in Nov. 20 collision in Bolton crossed intersection in front of dump truckCaledon OPP have provided information pertaining to the cause of a collision involving a local officer that occurred Friday (Nov. 20) around 2 p.m.
According to Const. Brenda Evans, a gravel truck was travelling southbound on Coleraine at King St. and the officer was also facing southbound, in the left hand turn lane preparing to continue on to King St. Evans explained that the male officer observed a Highway Traffic Act offence, activated his cruiser's lights and crossed the southbound lanes in an attempt to address the infraction, at which point he collided with the gravel truck.
The back end and the front end of the passenger side of the police vehicle appeared to be significantly damaged with all airbags within the vehicle deployed as it sat facing east in the southbound lane of the intersection near Harvest Moon Drive.
What appeared to be the front bumper of the vehicle and some additional debris was strewn about the roadway a few feet from where the cruiser had come to a stop.
Both Caledon Fire and a number of OPP colleagues showed up to assist with road closures with upwards of five to six police cruisers parked just outside the border of the scene in the southbound lanes of Coleraine, while the gravel truck was left parked along the roadside just south of the intersection.
There did not appear to be many witnesses as officers on scene seemed to focus on a singular passerby, as well as the gravel truck driver.
Neither driver involved sustained any injuries but the intersection remained closed for two hours for an investigation.
Northbound lanes remained open as both members of the local towing company and officers on scene directed traffic through.
The investigation is ongoing.
