OTTAWA — An on-duty Upper Ottawa Valley OPP officer was charged with failing to turn safely after crashing into a car on Highway 17.

The officer was driving a marked police car east on the highway around 4:45 p.m. Monday when he tried to make a U-turn just east of Doran Road in Petawawa.

The officer’s vehicle did not have the emergency lights activated when it collided with a westbound black Jeep.

The 33-year-old woman driving the Jeep and her passenger received minor injuries. The officer was not injured.

Const. Brian Lizotte, 32, was charged with not turning safely under the Highway Traffic Act.

Lizotte has been a member of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP for four years.

OPP officer charged

PETAWAWA - A member of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP has been charged following a two-vehicle collision on Highway 17 near Petawawa.

On June 18, just before 5 p.m. an on-duty officer with the Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police was travelling eastbound on Highway 17 near Doran Road when a collision occurred between the marked police vehicle and a westbound black Jeep.

The emergency lights of the police vehicle were not activated at the time of the mishap.

The 33-year-old female driver of the Jeep, the lone occupant of the vehicle, was not injured.

Constable Brian Lizotte, 32, was charged with turn not in safety as a result of the incident. A female officer that was travelling with him received minor injuries. Const. Lizotte has been a member of the Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police for the past four years.

Acting Sgt. Erin Pouliot of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP was the investigating officer.
