Rookie officer on the job for 9 months at time of collision

Ontario Provincial Police say a rookie officer in Hearst is facing a charge after a crash with a pick-up truck in Dec. 2014.

OPP report that the collision happened shortly before 11 p.m. on Dec. 19 at the "intersection of Highway 11 and Cloutier Road North, just west of Hearst, Ontario."

Police said in December that a 29-year-old man was driving eastbound in the pickup truck from the Constance Lake First Nation. He had a female passenger, 67, in the truck with him.

Close to 11 p.m., the officer, 31, pulled onto the highway and collided with the truck.

OPP reported at the time that "the three occupants sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to the hospital by ambulance where they were later released."

At the time of the crash, the officer had been on the job for nine months, according to the OPP.

OPP said on Tuesday that the officer was charged with failing to yield to traffic.
