Eastern Region OPP officer charged with assault

An OPP police officer has been arrested and charged with assault and mischief in relation to a domestic incident.

The member of the East Region OPP was investigated by the professional standards branch of the force after reports of a domestic assault. The 10-year uniform member of the OPP has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and mischief to property.

The victim remains in hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

He was held in custody to appear in Belleville court May 7 for a bail hearing.

His name and work location is not being disclosed to protect the identity of the victim, but the officer has been suspended from duty with pay.

A member of the East Region OPP has been charged with assault.

According to a release from OPP East Region spokesperson Sgt. Kristine Rae, the 10-year uniform member was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and mischief to property after the officer was involved in a domestic assault.

The OPP Professional Standards Branch conducted an investigation on May 5.

The victim remains in hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

The officer was held in custody and appeared for a bail hearing this morning in the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.

Rae said the name and work location of the accused will not be released, in order to protect the identity of the victim.

The officer is suspended from duty with pay.

Central Hastings OPP officer gets bail again

A Central Hastings OPP officer accused of assaulting a woman has been granted bail for the second time.

In an Intelligencer report, the officer was released yesterday after a bail hearing.

The officer – who cannot be named under a court-imposed publication ban – had been in police custody since last Sunday after being charged with criminal harassment as well as four charges of breach of recognizance.

The officer was originally arrested in May and charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and mischief to property.

He’s been suspended from duty with pay for the past five months.

His next court appearance is Nov. 21 in Picton.
