OPP officer charged following domestic incident

Postby Thomas » Fri Jan 05, 2018 3:27 am

Ontario Provincial Police have charged one of their officers criminally.

The OPP said in a news release that officers from the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry detachment responded to a residence for a domestic incident on Dec. 20 at about 9:10 p.m. OPP said the incident involved an off-duty officer who currently works out of the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry detachment, Sgt. Tina Hunt of the OPP said.

Hunt said no injuries were reported.

“The only information we will be releasing at this time about the officer is that they are an officer with the OPP,” Hunt said in an email to the Whig-Standard. “We will not be releasing any information about the victim to protect their privacy.”

The constable, an officer for 17 years, has been charged by the OPP with one count of domestic assault under the Criminal Code of Canada.

The officer has been placed on administrative duties and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Jan. 9.

“Administrative duties means the officer is not working general patrol duties and is working out of an office,” Hunt said.

It is standard for police not to identify the accused in domestic-related cases in order to protect the identity of the victim.
