Constable a 16-year veteran of the OPP, was off duty at time of alleged offences, police say

A veteran Ontario Provincial Police constable has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count of criminal harassment, the OPP said.

Police arrested the 39-year-old officer from eastern Ontario on May 19 following an ongoing investigation into a domestic matter by the professional standards bureau of the OPP, according to a media release issued Tuesday.

The OPP is not naming the officer or the location of the courthouse in order to protect the identity of the alleged victim.

The constable is a 16-year veteran with the OPP and was off duty at the time of the alleged incidents, which occurred within the past year, police said.

The OPP said the officer has been suspended from duty with pay, which is routine under provisions of the Police Services Act.

The officer was held in custody before being released on bail on Tuesday.

PP officer facing criminal harassment, sexual assault charge

Postby Thomas » Wed May 24, 2017 10:58 am

A press release from the Ontario Provincial Police indicates that one of their own officers from Eastern Ontario has been arrested and is facing several charges.

On Friday May 19, the officer was arrested as a result of an ongoing domestic investigation conducted by the OPP Professional Standards Bureau (PSB), police say. The investigation stems from incidents that are alleged to have occurred while the officer was off duty.

The 39-year-old, 16-year veteran of the OPP has been charged with one count of criminal harassment and two counts of sexual assault.

The officer was held in custody and was released on a Recognizance of Bail with conditions on May 23. Additionally, the officer has been suspended from duty with pay in accordance to the Police Services Act of Ontario.

OPP say they will not be releasing the name of the officer or the location of the court, as this could potentially identify the victim and they would like to prevent re-victimization.

Veteran OPP officer charged with sexual assault in 'domestic

Postby Thomas » Wed May 24, 2017 11:00 am

An Eastern Ontario OPP officer has been arrested and charged with criminal harassment and two counts of sexual assault in an ongoing "domestic" investigation by the force's professional standards bureau.

The OPP says it isn't releasing the name of the 39-year-old officer or the location of a Wednesday court appearance because it could identify the complainant, leading to "re-victimization."

Investigators say that the incidents are alleged to have occurred while the officer was off duty.

The 16-year veteran of the force was released on bail and suspended from duty with pay as set out in the province's Police Services Act.
