OPP officer charged with impaired driving in southern Georgian Bay

MIDLAND - An OPP officer faces drunk driving charges after a vehicle stop on Highway 12 Friday.

On Friday, March 3, at approximately 10:40 p.m., an officer from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a motor vehicle travelling westbound on Highway 12 at a speed in excess of the posted speed limit.

The motor vehicle was stopped and driver, who exhibited signs of impairment was arrested.

As a result of the investigation that followed, an off-duty member of the OPP has been charged with the following offences:

- Drive While Ability Impaired

- Driving with More than 80mgs of Alcohol in Blood.

Provincial Constable Trent Bierworth, who is currently assigned to Central Region Headquarters and is a 14-year member of the OPP, is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Midland ‎on Thursday, March 16.

This is the second off-duty OPP officer criminally charged this month. On March 2 the OPP Professional Standards Bureau announced an Georgian Bay OPP officer was charged with assault causing body harm connected to an incident he was involved in while off duty.

An off-duty OPP officer has been charged with impaired driving after being pulled over on Highway 12.

On March 3, a Southern Georgian Bay OPP officer observed a motor vehicle travelling west on Highway 12 at a speed in excess of the posted limit.

The motor vehicle was stopped and the driver, who allegedly exhibited signs of impairment, was arrested.

Const. Trent Bierworth, a 14-year member of the OPP who is currently assigned to Central Region Headquarters, was charged with driving while impaired and driving with a blood-alcohol level of more than 80 milligrams.

He will appear in Midland court March 16.

MIDLAND, Ont. — A 14-year member of the Ontario Provincial Police is due in court on Thursday to face impaired driving charges.

Provincial police say Const. Trent Bierworth was pulled over Friday evening while heading westbound on Highway 12 near Midland, Ont.

They say an officer allegedly noticed a vehicle travelling above the speed limit.

Bierworth is charged with driving while impaired and driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in his blood.

He's currently assigned to the department's Central Region Headquarters, but was off-duty at the time.

An OPP officer has been charged with driving while ability impaired and driving with more than 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood.

On March 3, at approximately 10:40 p.m., a Southern Georgian Bay OPP officer saw a car going higher than the speed limit posed westbound on Hwy 12.

The driver, who showed signs of impairment, was arrested after the car was pulled over.

Constable Trent Bierworth, who was off duty at the time, currently works out of Central Region Headquarters. The 14-year member of the OPP is scheduled to appear at the Midland Court Žon March 16.
