OPP officer charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm
Cruiser driven by OPP constable collided with civilian vehicle in Johnstown, Ont., in June
An Ontario Provincial Police constable based in Brockville, Ont., has been charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm after a crash south of Ottawa in June.
At around 9 p.m. on Friday, June 10, a Leeds County OPP cruiser collided with a vehicle at the intersection of County Road 2 and Mary Street in Johnstown, Ont., just east of the community of Prescott.
Johnstown is about 90 kilometres south of Ottawa.
The driver of the civilian vehicle was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, OPP said at the time. The officer was taken to hospital with minor injuries and later released.
Ontario's Special Investigations Unit — which looks into cases of death, serious injury or sexual assault involving police in the province — was called in to investigate.
The SIU has now charged Const. Timothy Jackson with one count of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
He is scheduled to appear in court in Brockville on Jan. 6.
