Officer charged with impaired driving

Postby Thomas » Wed Aug 17, 2016 4:04 pm

An Orillia-based OPP officer faces several charges relating to a single-vehicle collision last week.

Matthew Chorny, a constable at the force's general headquarters in Orillia, will appear in Bradford court Sept. 8.

He is charged with impaired driving, failing or refusing to provide a breath sample along with possession of cannabis and cannabis resin.

OPP Sgt. Chrystal Jones wouldn't say whether Chorny, who has been with the force for 13 years, is currently working.

"For reasons related to employee confidentiality, I cannot answer questions related to his work status at this point," said Jones, who noted the 37-year-old Chorny was off-duty when the incident occurred.

Nottawasaga OPP officers were called to the collision in Essa Township Aug. 7 at about 4 p.m.

An investigation determined the driver had been consuming alcohol, police said, adding marijuana was located and seized during a search of the vehicle.
