(RED LAKE, ON) – On May 11, officers from Red Lake OPP were conducting a RIDE check on Highway 125, just west of Dellenor Road, in Red Lake. At approximately 11:05 pm officers checked a vehicle and discovered the driver had been drinking.
The driver provided a breath sample into the roadside screening device and registered a fail. The driver was arrested and transported to the Red Lake detachment for breath tests.
As a result of the investigation Provincial Constable Caitlyn Van Straalen, a six year member of the OPP currently assigned to the Red Lake Detachment, was arrested and charged with Drive Over 80 mgs of Alcohol in 100 ml of Blood, contrary to the Criminal Code.
Van Straalen will be restricted to non-operational duties pending her scheduled appearance in Red Lake Criminal Court on June 5.
