OTTAWA — A longtime officer with the Ontario Provincial Police has been charged with theft and fraud.

Wayne Burrows, 53, was charged with theft under $5,000, fraud under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.

The OPP said in a release that the charges stem from thefts and fraud that took place between June 15 and Aug. 29. Burrows, a provincial constable with the Napanee OPP detachment, was on duty at the time of the incident.

He has been suspended from duty with pay.

Burrows has worked for the OPP for 30 years.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the OPP Professional Standards Bureau at 613-285-2700.

Burrows was released ahead of a court appearance in Belleville on Sept. 26.

OPP say he was posted to the Napanee detachment and was on duty at the time of the alleged incidents.

Burrows has been suspended from duty with pay and anyone with information is asked to contact provincial police.

NAPANEE — A long-standing officer with the Ontario Provincial Police has been arrested for theft and fraud.

On Thursday morning, 53-year-old OPP Const. Wayne Burrows was arrested in Hastings or Lennox and Addington County.

“He was charged with theft, fraud and possession of stolen property,” said OPP Sgt. Kristine Rae. As to the items alleged to be in Burrows’ possession, Rae says the OPP “hasn’t been able to disclose that.”

The constable has been with the OPP for 30 years.

Burrows is charged with theft under $5,000, fraud under $5,000, and possession of property obtained by crime.

According to a news release, Burrows “was posted to the Napanee OPP Detachment and was on duty at the time of the incident. He has been suspended from duty with pay in accordance with the Police Services Act.”

Rae says that Burrows has been posted to Napanee for “quite a while.”

He has been released on a Promise to Appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Belleville on Sept. 26, 2013.

Cop charged with fraud

A 30-year-veteran of the Ontario Provincial Police is scheduled for a court appearance next month in relation to fraud charges.

Const. Wayne Burrows was charged with theft and fraud by the Professional Standards Bureau late last month. While Burrows was not in attendance at court Thursday his matter was discussed briefly with defence counsel Pieter Kort requesting some additional time.

“I'm requesting Oct. 17 so I can receive disclosure,” Kort said.

Justice of the Peace Ernie Parsons granted the request with Burrows expected to appear on that date.

Burrows faces charges for theft under $5,000, fraud under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.

He was posted to Napanee OPP detachment at the time of the alleged incidents between June 15 and Aug. 29 . According to the charges, Burrows was on-duty at the time of the incident, for which no details have yet been provided.

He has been suspended from duty with pay in accordance with the Police Services Act.

A trial date has been set for an Ontario Provincial Police officer charged with fraud.

Wayne Burrows, 54, was stationed at the Napanee OPP detachment when he was charged last August with theft and fraud under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.

Burrows was on duty when the alleged incidents occurred between June and August of last year.

The 30 year veteran of the OPP – who was suspended with pay when the charges were laid – will go to trial November 13.

Former officer trial

A trial will be held later this year for a former Napanee provincial police officer charged with fraud and other offenses.

Wayne Burrows was charged by the Professional Standards Bureau last August with theft under $5,000, fraud under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.

The 30 year OPP veteran was posted to the Napanee detachment at the time of the alleged incidents and was on duty at the time.

Burrows, who is now retired, has been given a November 13th trial date.

A trial date has been set for a Napanee OPP officer charged with theft, fraud, and possession.

OPP Const. Wayne Burrows was arrested on Aug. 29, 2013 and charged with theft under $5,000, fraud under $5,000, and possession of stolen property in relation to an incident that occurred between June 15 and Aug. 29, 2013.

He was arrested and charged by the OPP Professional Standards Bureau while on duty.

Burrows, 54 years old, was stationed at the Napanee OPP detachment at the time of the arrest, where he had been working for "quite a while," according to OPP Sgt. Kristine Rae.

Burrows was with the OPP for 30 years and retired in late 2013, after being suspended from duty with pay.

His trial date has been set for November 13, later this year.

Ex-OPP officer pleads guilty to stealing gas

A now-retired Quinte region police officer facing several charges has pleaded guilty to one of them, theft of gasoline.

He made a $1,500 donation to charity and was granted “an absolute discharge.”

Wayne Burrows was originally charged by the Professional Standards Bureau in August of 2012, with theft under $5,000, fraud under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.

The 30-year OPP veteran was posted to the Napanee detachment at the time of the alleged incidents and was on duty at the time.
