Bancroft OPP costing too much: Report

Obscenely high and unsustainable policing costs. OPP bills are destroying communities its officers are supposed to protect. Apparent self-interest is cloaked in the guise of public safety needs. Where is the political outrage while OPP costs continue to climb? Who is going to bring policing costs in this province under control?

Bancroft OPP costing too much: Report

The Town of Bancroft is happy with its Ontario Provincial Police service, just not the cost to maintain the status quo.

According to Bancroft This Week, municipal residents pay nearly $1.6 million for the service, that’s 27% of its 2013 budget.

Bancroft councillor Paul Jenkins is quoted as saying the problem is the cost-formula from the province.

The cost is over $700 per household per year, while the provincial average is around $160 per home.

Officials say municipalities adjacent to Bancroft pay between $150 and $190 for the OPP.
