Settlement: Williams’ victim “ecstatic!”

Postby Thomas » Sun Mar 08, 2015 11:04 am

It’s been a long time in the works, but one of convicted sex murderer Russell Williams’ victims has reached an out of court settlement with the provincial government.

Quinte News has learned that Laurie Massicotte, Williams’ neighbour on Cosy Cove Lane in Tweed, and the Crown have recently signed off on the agreement.

As is usual with these agreements, details will not be made public.

Massicotte, who was stripped of her clothing with a knife, and made to pose for lurid pictures by the former 8 Wing Base Commander in September of 2009, had sued the Crown, meaning the Ontario Provincial Police, and Williams and his wife, for over $7 million.

Massicotte says while an agreement has been made with the Crown, her lawsuit against the Williams continues.

In her lawsuit, and in the press, Massicotte criticized the OPP’s response and its treatment of her after Williams’ attack.

Commenting on the settlement, Massicotte said she could speak for her three daughters, who were also part of the suit, saying they were all “ecstatic”.

She has been unable to work, and has been undergoing therapy of various kinds ever since the attack, and hopes to return to school soon, eventually leading to work as a Justice Service Worker.

She continues to live at her home in Tweed.

On October 21, 2010, Williams was sentenced to two life sentences for the first-degree murder of Jessica Lloyd of Belleville and Marie France Comeau of Brighton, two 10-year sentences for sexual assaults, two 10-year sentences for forcible confinement, and 82 one-year sentences for breaking and entering, all to be served concurrently.

Williams is in solitary confinement in a small cell in a federal prison in Quebec.
