SMITHS FALLS - An Ontario Provincial Police officer suffered minor injuries when a cruiser was involved in a collision with another vehicle near here Tuesday afternoon.
At approximately 5:35 p.m., members of the Leeds County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a two-vehicle collision on County Road 29, south of Otterdale Crescent in the former South Elmsley Township, police reported Wednesday.
Police were releasing few details but said one of the vehicles involved was an OPP marked cruiser, while the other was a grey Chevrolet SUV.
The officer suffered minor injuries and the driver and passenger of the SUV were taken to hospital as a precaution, also with minor injuries.
The OPP said Wednesday that “charges may be pending,” but did not specify whether those pending charges were against the OPP officer or the civilian driver.
“The investigation is still continuing,” OPP Cst. Roop Sandhu replied in an email to The Recorder and Times.
However, he added the situation did not meet the mandate of the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which is usually called in when someone is hurt or killed in a police-involved incident, which could suggest investigators may be looking at the civilian as responsible.http://www.recorder.ca/2018/04/11/opp-o ... t-in-crash
