Police say man was riding an e-bike without a helmet

Provincial police called Ontario's Special Investigations Unit after officers used a stun gun while arresting a 42-year old man in Tecumseh, OPP said in a news release.

Police said they found a man riding an e-bike without a helmet at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Officers used a Taser to subdue the man after he resisted arrest, police said.

Special investigations unit investigating after OPP use Tase

Thu Sep 17, 2015 1:07 pm

The provincial Special Investigation Unit is investigating after the Ontario Provincial Police used a Taser to catch a suspect resisting arrest.

OPP were trying to arrest a 42-year-old man who was riding an e-bike without a helmet and known to be prohibited from driving in Canada. Officers tried to arrest the man after noticing him in Tecumseh just before 8 p.m. Wednesday night.

A news release from the OPP says officers were forced to use the Conducted Energy Weapon — a Taser — in order to arrest the man, since he was resisting arrest. He was taken to an area hospital and was treated for minor injuries.

OPP have charged 42-year-old Jason Jeffery Johnson with assault with intent to resist arrest and prohibited driving contrary to the Criminal Code.
