Man taken to hospital after being hit by an OPP cruiser

CAMPBELLFORD - A 73-year-old pedestrian crossing Doxsee Ave. was hit by an OPP cruiser making a left-hand turn from Bridge St. Thursday night, Northumberland OPP said.

Police said the officer was turning on an advanced green when he hit the eastbound man at about 8 p.m.

The pedestrian was taken to Campbellford Memorial Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. Police said he was kept there overnight for observation.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit was notified of the incident, police said, but decided not to evoke their mandate.

The SIU investigates allegations of sexual assault involving police officers, and any incidents where a person is seriously harmed or dies during contact with police.
