An OPP officer has been charged in that Highway 17 West collision Wednesday in Beaucage Township.

The accident, just west of the lookout closed the highway for about four hours

Police say that a fully marked cruiser was parked on the westbound shoulder of the highway and proceeded to enter the westbound lane colliding with a westbound vehicle, Nissan Rogue.

The driver and passenger of the Nissan as well as the officer were transported to West Nipissing hospital where they were treated for minor injuries and released.

Provincial Constable Robin Camirand, an eight year member of the North Bay OPP Detachment was issued a Provincial Offences Notice for the offence of "Start from Stopped Position-Not in Safety".

Members of the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) assisted with the investigation.

4:05 p.m. release

OPP advise SooToday that the officer whose cruiser was struck at the scene of a collision on Highway 17 has been released from hospital.
The highway at the scene is still down to one lane after a tractor trailer hauling non-hazardous goods overturned, blocking three of four lanes of Highway 17 North.

Crews are working to clean up the material.

The driver, and lone occupant, of the transport was treated for minor injuries, say OPP.

Original release (2:11 p.m.)

RYAN TOWNSHIP – On Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at approximately 6:45 a.m., a member of the Ontario Provincial Police Sault Ste. Marie detachment was injured while conducting traffic control at the scene of a motor vehicle collision north of Alona Bay on Highway 17 in Ryan Township.

The officer was in his cruiser with all emergency lights activated facing northbound when a motorist travelling northbound rear-ended the cruiser.

The officer received non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by Sault Area ambulance.

The driver of the other involved motor vehicle was not injured.

The collision is still under investigation.

North Bay OPP Officer Charged In Hwy 17 Crash

A North Bay O-P-P officer was found responsible for a collision on Highway 17-East that injured himself and two others last week.

Last Wednesday, a fully-marked police cruiser had attempted to re-enter traffic when it was struck by a westbound car near the Scenic Lookout, west of North Bay.

The officer and two people in the other car were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Members of the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators looked into the crash.

Eight-year member of the North Bay O-P-P, Constable Robin Camirand, was issued a provincial offences notice for not safely starting from a stopped position, contrary to Section 142(2) of the Highway Traffic Act.
